Fronted by Post Apocalyptic/Dystopian collaborators Zach Bohannon and J. Thorn, The Career Author Podcast is a joyful but pragmatic view from the trenches of real world indie authors. It’s a truism that the best people to learn from are those just ahead of you on the journey rather than those who’ve already reached the summit and this pair, though they’re far more successful than most of us, are at a level that feels achievable.
Zach and J are obviously good friends and this lends an informal and relaxed atmosphere. They’re refreshingly honest and seem as content to reveal their cock-ups as their triumphs; always with the aim of helping other indie authors to learn from both.
This is probably the most practically useful of all the podcasts I’ve come across and I come away from most episodes having learned something I can use in my author business.
Every now and again, particularly early on, they’ve fallen prey to a common issue with podcasts–commenting on something (usually a news item) without having prepared and going off half cocked because of that. And, of course, I don’t agree with absolutely everything they say. Only 95% of it.
A delightful listen full of golden nuggets and the perfect mix of optimism and realism, the Career Author Podcast is one of my absolute favourites.
